This, depending on the severity, can cause a deformity in the nose or that we breathe through the mouth most of the time which can limit physical activity, cause bad breath, hoarseness or sleep-related breathing disorders, recurrent nosebleeds, headaches, runny nose and, in childhood it can affect the development of certain structures in the face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>In severe cases the deformity of the nasal septum can obstruct the drainage of the paranasal sinuses causing recurrent infections or sinusitis (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/192.168.100.55\/senos-paranasales-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">click here to read what it is<strong> sinusitis<\/strong><\/a>), alterations in smell, pressure or pain in the face, fever and a feeling of blocked ears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How is a septal deviation diagnosed and how is it corrected?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to see a specialist in the nose and paranasal sinuses (otolaryngologist) if you suspect or have symptoms caused by a deviated nasal septum.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the consultation, the specialist doctor will not only take note of your important medical history, he will also examine your nose in order to diagnose the cause of your condition either manually or with the help of a small camera called an endoscope.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En caso de tener una desviaci\u00f3n septal, el m\u00e9dico podr\u00e1 solicitar una tomograf\u00eda computarizada de nariz y senos paranasales, el cual brinda im\u00e1genes detalladas del interior de tu nariz y senos paranasales para lograr visualizar detalladamente el grado&nbsp; y localizaci\u00f3n de desviaci\u00f3n del septum, o si existen alg\u00fan otra condici\u00f3n m\u00e9dica asociada (ver imagen).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/i0.wp.com\/sabmedic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1688\" width=\"302\" height=\"313\"\/><figcaption><strong>CT scan showing nasal septum deviation (yellow arrow)<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In turn, if surgical treatment is required, this study also helps the surgeon to plan the surgery in order to provide you with the best possible results.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By going to an otolaryngologist, you will be given a diagnosis and treatment. Commonly a deviation of the nasal septum which causes symptoms and does not improve with medical treatment, requires a surgical correction called rhinoseptumplastia or septumplastia. There are several surgical techniques to correct a septal deviation, such as: closed, open or endoscopic approach.
